Recently, Sarah Deford, who serves as Career Services Student Support Representative at the Saginaw campus, got the word out about an organization she wanted to bring attention to: I Support the 1%.

The organization supports military families by providing them with food and paper products when they are in need. Their mission statement reads: “We aim to establish a funding source to support a year round food bank just for military personnel.” In the area, there are many families of active duty military personnel or veterans who are in need, and I Support the 1% needs help from the larger community to be able to provide assistance to anyone who is in need.

Deford was able to recruit staff and students to donate and spread the word to friends and family, as well. Many generous donations were received, filling up several bags and boxes with food. Along with Ashley Hine, also from Career Services, Deford brought the donations to the food pantry and they were given a tour of the facility from Judy Adams, the president of the Board of Directors of I Support the 1%.

Noting the large size of the pantry, Deford and Hine couldn’t believe how much work it must take to sort, date, and rotate the products. Adams said that the pantry was helping more than 60 local families, which means donations are relied upon and always appreciated.

I Support the 1% is always seeking donations from the Saginaw community. Every September 11, the Kroger in Saginaw hosts a food drive for the organization, which brings about many opportunities for others in the community to help by donating their time.

To learn more about the organization, visit https://supportthe1percent.com/.

The Ross community of students, staff, and faculty are a kind and compassionate bunch, as evidenced by the many service…
Read More

[2
