For Jada, her journey from Michigan\u2019s foster care system to pursuing a career in dental assisting is truly inspiring. In a recent interview, she shared her story, providing insight into her experiences and aspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where did you grow up?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I grew up in Michigan, specifically in the Grand Rapids area, and I’ve been there my whole life. It\u2019s where I\u2019ve always called home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How did you enter the foster care system?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n My mom struggled with substance issues, and eventually, it came to the attention of the authorities. That\u2019s how we ended up in the foster care system. I have an older sibling who was already over 18 and two younger twin brothers who were just four years old at the time. I was 12 when it happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When given the chance to live with my grandmother, I made the decision to stay with my brothers because I couldn\u2019t imagine leaving them alone. That choice, however, meant that we all entered the system together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What was it like entering the foster care system?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It was terrifying. It happened during a snowstorm at night. They drove us an hour and a half away to a completely unfamiliar area. My main concern wasn\u2019t even myself; I was focused on my brothers, making sure they were okay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I was actually at the movies with a friend when my mom called, asking me to come home. When I arrived, we were taken away almost immediately. It was a lot to process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What was your first placement like?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We were really lucky. We were placed in a foster home right away, and all three of us were kept together, which is rare. The family treated us very well, and I\u2019m still in touch with them to this day. They provided a stable and loving environment, and I\u2019m incredibly grateful for that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What inspired your decision to move to Huntsville and pursue a career in dental assisting?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019ve always been drawn to the idea of southern hospitality, so moving to Huntsville felt like a fresh start where I could focus on school. As for pursuing dental assisting, I\u2019ve always had a big heart and wanted to help people, so the medical field felt like a natural choice. Seeing someone come to you in pain and being able to help them feel better is so rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What has the transition been like for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s been tough at times. I\u2019m really close to my family, especially my little brothers, so being away from them has been hard. But I\u2019ve been able to visit Michigan often, which helps. Having an uncle nearby in Huntsville has also been really helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What motivates you to keep going, despite the challenges you\u2019ve faced?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n My little brothers. They look up to me, and I want to set a positive example for them. Our family\u2019s past hasn\u2019t always been easy, but I\u2019m determined to create a better path for them and myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How has your experience at Ross Education been so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s been great. I tried the traditional college route, but it wasn\u2019t for me. Ross’ smaller class sizes and hands-on approach have made all the difference for me. It\u2019s focused and straight to the point, which I really appreciate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What are your plans after graduation?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I want to work in an orthodontics or surgical office. Ultimately, I plan to move back to Michigan to be closer to my family and establish a stable life for myself once I am done with my schooling. So I\u2019m definitely looking forward to this aspect of the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n What message would you like to share with others who might be going through similar struggles?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019d say that just because life is rough and rocky right now doesn\u2019t mean it will always be that way. Learn from the paths others have taken and focus on creating a better one for yourself. It\u2019s worth it in the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Would you be interested in participating in a mentorship program for foster care students?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Absolutely. I think having someone who understands what you\u2019ve been through can make a huge difference.
