{"id":14281,"date":"2014-09-11T12:00:14","date_gmt":"2014-09-11T16:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/?p=14281"},"modified":"2014-09-11T12:00:14","modified_gmt":"2014-09-11T16:00:14","slug":"sylvania-holds-charity-softball-tournament-baskets-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/blog\/sylvania-holds-charity-softball-tournament-baskets-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Sylvania Holds Charity Softball Tournament for Baskets of Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Ross-Medical-Sylvania-Baskets-of-Care.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Ross-Medical-Sylvania-Baskets-of-Care-300x206.jpg\" alt=\"Ross-Medical-Sylvania-Baskets-of-Care\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14283\" \/><\/a>Pat Ricard, Medical Assisting Instructor at <a href=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ross College<\/a> in Sylvania, was the organizer of the 1st Annual Baskets of Care softball tournament this summer. The tournament was held on July 25th, 26th, and 27th. A total of seven teams participated; there were three U12 teams and four U14 teams. The tournament was Round Robin style where each team played all the others and then there was a single elimination final game. Each participating team paid a fee and Ross students and staff sold concessions and 50\/50 tickets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketsofcare.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Baskets of Care<\/a> is an organization that helps newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Their mission, as stated on their website, is \u201cto provide help and hope to people newly diagnosed with breast cancer, helping them traverse the confusing and frightening journey through radiation, chemotherapy, surgery. and recovery.\u201d One program they have provides peer support to patients from volunteers who are also breast cancer survivors. They also provide \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketsofcare.org\/basketofcare.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">baskets of care<\/a>\u201d to patients. These are given as gifts to patients from their support team which includes their doctor and the survivor assigned as a support to them. The baskets contain important contact information, educational materials regarding diagnosis, surgery, and follow-up care, and various other products.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, Sylvania was able to donate $1000 to Baskets of Care; this will provide approximately 20 comfort bags. There were 14 students that helped from the <a href=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/programs\/medical-insurance-billing-and-office-administration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Medical Billing and Office Administration<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/programs\/medical-assistant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Medical Assisting<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/programs\/dental-assistant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dental Assisting<\/a> programs. They all were enthusiastic about the event, sharing that they had a lot of fun and would like to do more things like this. All the teams were very excited about the tournament and had special shirts made up it.
