\t\t\t\t\"Ross<\/a>Last week, on Friday, October 10th, students from the Ross Medical Education Center<\/a> Davison<\/a> campus\u2019 Medical Assistant<\/a> program headed out to the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth, Michigan for the Annual Michigan State Society of American Medical Technologists (MSSAMT)<\/a> Fall Scientific Meeting. The class was able to attend a seminar entitled \u201cPhlebotomy Challenges\u201d given by Marie Moorhouse, BS, from University of Michigan.<\/p>\n

The Michigan State Society of American Medical Technologists (MSSAMT) is the Michigan chapter of the American Medical Technologists (AMT)<\/a>. They currently have over 3,000 members including Registered Medical Assistants, Certified Medical Administrative Specialists, Registered Dental Assistants, and other healthcare professionals. According to AMT\u2019s website, their mission is \u201cto manage, promote, expand upon and continuously improve our certification programs for allied health professionals who work in a variety of disciplines and settings, to administer certification examinations in accordance with the highest standards of accreditation, and to provide continuing education, information, advocacy services and other benefits to our AMT members.\u201d<\/p>\n

The speaker, Marie Moorhouse, is a Training Specialist in the Department of Pathology Phlebotomy Services at University of Michigan Health Systems. Many of the students and instructors that attended from Ross found her to be extremely interesting and helpful, offering helpful advice and hints. Katie Bond, Medical Assistant student, said, “The trip to Frankenmuth was very informative. I learned a lot of tricks of the trade, such as warming the area to help pop out the vein. I love that Ross allows us to have learning opportunities such as this.” This was the first time attending the Meeting for many of the group from Ross, including Emily Green, Medical Assistant Administrative Instructor. She was very impressed with the entire experience, saying, \u201cI think the students really benefited from the information they received. We went to the phlebotomy seminar with Mrs. Marie Moorhouse, a subject most students really enjoy during the program.” The students deeply appreciated the \u201ctricks of the trade\u201d from a veteran phlebotomist like Moorhouse.<\/p>\n
