Both students and staff felt honored to take part in this event for the fourth year in a row, as the cause is near and dear to many. The campus was represented by 18 walkers and raised a total $885 for this important cause. With the combined funds raised by the Ross Corporate Office in St. Clair, Ross students and staff donated a total of $2,378. Out of the 41 teams participating in the event, Ross was proud to give the second largest donation to the cause. Campus Director, Mia Vargo, shared, “I am extremely proud of the dedication to this cause by staff and students. The large donation collected will definitely touch many lives within our community.”

By actively contributing to this cause, both students and staff understand what good work this organization is helping to provide. “I am so proud of all the Ross students! The weather was perfect and it was awesome to see everyone come together and support such a great cause,” said Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration Instructor, Jennifer Sater. Some students made the event a family affair, such as Michele Perez, a current student from the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program. She shared with her classmates that she had family members that participated in the walk, honoring her cousin that was recently diagnosed. Stories of survival were shared by all participants, as well as support and dedications of remembrance.

For over a century, The American Cancer Society has been helping to save more than 400 lives a day from cancer by educating women on early detection and developing prevention guidelines. One out of two women diagnosed with breast cancer will be strengthened by the support and encouragement that The American Cancer Society offers. Some of the programs offered include avenues for patients to find hotel accommodations while receiving cancer treatments that are far from their home. The “Look Better, Feel Better” program provides volunteer cosmetologists that lend tips and techniques on how to cope with skin changes and hair loss. The “Reach to Recovery” program partners a cancer survivor with a recently diagnosed patient. This offers one-on-one peer support throughout the entire duration of the patient’s treatment. The American Cancer Society, more than any other non-governmental organization, contributes more in research to find, prevent, treat, and cure cancer. They provide free information and services in every community across the United States.

For more information on the services that the American Cancer Society provides, contact them at 1-800-227-2345 or visit www.cancer.org.

On Saturday, October 11th, the Ross Medical Education Center Port Huron Campus participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer…
Read More

[2
