{"id":14606,"date":"2014-11-10T11:59:43","date_gmt":"2014-11-10T16:59:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/?p=14606"},"modified":"2014-11-10T11:59:43","modified_gmt":"2014-11-10T16:59:43","slug":"charleston-visits-omnicare-externship-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/blog\/charleston-visits-omnicare-externship-site\/","title":{"rendered":"Charleston Visits OmniCare Externship Site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Ross-Medical-Education-Center-Charleston-Ominicare-Phamacy-Technician.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Ross-Medical-Education-Center-Charleston-Ominicare-Phamacy-Technician-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Ross Medical Education Center Charleston Ominicare Phamacy Technician\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14608\" \/><\/a>Last Tuesday, November 4th, students from <a href=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/\" title=\"Ross Medical Education Center\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ross Medical Education Center<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/campus\/wv\/charleston.php\" title=\"Ross Medical Education Center Charleston Campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Charleston<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"\/programs\/pharmacy-technician\/\" title=\"Ross Medical Education Center Pharmacy Technician Program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pharmacy Technician<\/a> program traveled to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.omnicare.com\/long-term-care\/omnicare-pharmacy-services.aspx\" title=\"Omnicare Long Term Care Pharmacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OmniCare Long Term Care Pharmacy<\/a>. OmniCare is an active affiliate with the campus\u2019 Pharmacy Technician externship program. In each of its programs, Ross requires students to complete a practical externship in order to graduate. The externship is crucial to the learning experience for every Ross student, giving them a chance to apply what they have been given instruction on in the classroom to a real world setting. The externship also provides employers an opportunity to assess students\u2019 skills prior to hiring entry-level allied health professionals.<\/p>\n<p>The students enjoyed learning more about OmniCare which specifically caters to nursing homes and Hospice. Within their 17,000 square foot facility, OmniCare has a non-sterile compounding area and a sterile compounding area which includes IVs, blister packing, and many other jobs that pharmacy technicians are hired to do. Tim Clemons, a <a href=\"\/programs\/pharmacy-technician\/\" title=\"Ross Medical Education Center Pharmacy Technician Program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pharmacy Technician<\/a> student, said, \u201cEveryone looked like they enjoyed working there. I love that the building is clean and you don&#8217;t feel boxed in walking around. I learned that there is a lot more than meets the eye at filling prescriptions.\u201d During their externship affiliation with them, Ross has had students complete their externship at the facility and find it to be an excellent place to work and to learn.<\/p>\n<p>The visiting students were also able to learn a lot during their brief time at Omnicare. Taquana Thomas, <a href=\"\/programs\/pharmacy-technician\/\" title=\"Ross Medical Education Center Pharmacy Technician Program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pharmacy Technician<\/a> student, was interested to find out \u201cthat there is a certain area where medications have to be disposed of property. I liked that there were also different sections a pharmacy technician can train in, such as IV solutions and packaging medications.\u201d Another student, Marie King, really enjoyed the day, saying, \u201cmy trip to OmniCare was awesome.
