\t\t\t\tRecentl\"Ross<\/a>y, Ross Medical Education Center<\/a> students and staff at the Johnson City<\/a> campus raised awareness for the Holston United Methodist Home for Children<\/a> by collecting hats and mittens for underprivileged and homeless children in the Tri-Cities area. The winter accessories were then donated to the home to be used to keep these children warm this winter.<\/p>\n

The ministry of Holston United Methodist Home for Children began in 1895 when a single woman took a step of faith and founded an orphanage in Northeast Tennessee. From those early beginnings, the home has grown to serve more than 8,000 children. Any given day, 325 children and their families are assisted through family service centers located throughout East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. According to their website, \u201cThe goal is always to do what is best for the children whether its reuniting with family, adoption, or successfully transitioning to adulthood. Our professional staff work to strengthen families and we help children overcome any emotional traumas or other hardships they may have experienced.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Ross<\/a>The campus was very excited for the opportunity to help, even in a small way, as the organization prepared for winter. As the forecast for this winter looks especially cold, the donations could not have come at a better time. Jammie Cole, Johnson City Campus Director, said, “It is very rewarding helping a cause that provides hope for children and families struggling with life’s challenges.\u201d The Johnson City campus was able to collect enough hats and mittens to provide for over 50 children during this drive and they look forward to working with the Holston United Methodist Home for Children again in the future!<\/p>\n
