They wanted to help educate the children there about dental hygiene as part of National Children’s Dental Health Month. This month-long national health observance brings together thousands of dedicated dental professionals, healthcare providers, and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, caregivers, teachers and many others involved in their lives.

They decided to work with children in the Young Fives program at the school. Many of these students are still in the process of understanding how to adequately brush and floss their teeth, so this was a great opportunity to reinforce those skills as well as break down the reason behind taking care of their dental hygiene. Lauren Ross, Young Fives Teacher, loved having Ross at the school and said, “My students and I would like to extend our thanks to you! They enjoyed having you guys in here and are still talking about how to properly brush and floss, and good and bad foods for our teeth! You guys were wonderful and I really appreciate you taking time out to come into our classroom.”

The Ross students also loved going to the school. They got to teach the children all about foods and how they can be good and bad for teeth. They also got to explain the correct process for cleaning and flossing teeth. Allison Girard and Jana Howard, the Dental Assistant students that taught at Thomson Elementary, did a wonderful job and even chose to do it on their day off because they know the importance of teaching children early how to stay healthy. Ms. Ross was so impressed with the way that Allison and Jana taught her class, and their instructor, Lisa Thompson, was very proud to see her students sharing their expertise and benefiting the children in their community.

This February, some volunteers from the Dental Assistant class at Ross Medical Education Center’s Davison campus got the opportunity to…
Read More

[2
