When they closed the plant that she was working at to move overseas, she wasn’t sure how she was going to make ends meet. As the single mother of three children, she knew that she had to think of something – and fast.

Connie had no high school diploma, so she worked hard and earned her GED in the middle of December of 2014. She was proud of the steps that she had made, but she was wanting a career. So, on February 2nd, 2015, she enrolled in the Medical Assistant program at Ross. She was more than ready to begin a new season of her life so that she could support herself and her children.

The first two weeks were so overwhelming that Connie seriously considered giving up and dropping out. She went in to talk with her instructors in an effort to get some help before she went through with dropping out. “My instructors were so supportive,” she shared of the experience. “They told me I could do it.”

After talking with them and recommitting to finishing the program, Connie proved that she most certainly could do it. She finished her first module with a 3.5 and continued to prove herself academically throughout the program, succeeding to be one of the top students in her class. She graduated from the Medical Assistant program on September 2nd, 2015 with a 3.86 GPA. After finishing, she took the Registered Medical Assistant Certification Exam with American Medical Technologists and passed.

As a Registered Medical Assistant, Connie said, “I went from closed doors to several open doors.” She loved the program at Ross. “The instructors at Ross in Kentwood Michigan are very supportive I couldn’t do it without them. Best experience I’ve ever had in my life.” The staff and faculty at Ross in Kentwood couldn’t be more proud of Connie and all that she has accomplished.

Connie Ortiz came to Ross Medical Education Center in Kentwood after she had worked in the automotive industry for 15…
Read More

[15
