Ross <a href=\"\/programs\/medical-assistant\/\">Medical Assistant students<\/a> and <a href=\"\/programs\/Medical-Insurance-Billing-and-Office-Administration\/\">Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration students<\/a> have taken time out of their breaks from class to create thoughtful cards containing words of encouragement for local cancer patients.<\/p>\n<p>This is an annual event for the Port Huron campus that provides emotional support to local residents seeking care at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mylakehuron.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lake Huron Medical Center<\/a>, as well as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mymercy.us\/peoplesclinic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">People&#8217;s Clinic of Port Huron<\/a>. In the past, this event has been called \u201cThreads of Mercy.\u201d It was named as such because of the beautiful blankets that were created and donated by members of the community for patients at the hospital. Changes within the hospital over the past year have resulted in changes with this event and although the name of the event has changed, the need for such items has not.<\/p>\n<p>This was the first year that Nicole Semrow, Financial Aid Student Support Representative at the Port Huron campus, was made aware of this unique event. When Nicole heard the details surrounding this cause, she decided to donate a beautiful, hand-crocheted blanket which was made by her grandmother. \u201cI know that my grandmother would want nothing more than one of her blankets to be used to help others and to make others feel better,\u201d Nicole shared. Mary Jo Jobbitt, Medical Assistant Instructor, also expressed her passion for the cause, \u201cthis is so rewarding for our students to be able to give back and feel like they are helping someone have a brighter day because of a few kind words. Making a difference in someone\u2019s life can be as easy as giving them a card and letting them know they are not alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lake Huron Medical Center is one of the area\u2019s largest healthcare providers offering 144-bed acute care, adult medical\/surgical services, emergency care, cancer care, cardiac care, bariatric care, inpatient rehabilitation services, and other medical services.
