\t\t\t\t\"Ross<\/a>In honor of November\u2019s National Diabetes Month<\/a>, the Ross Medical Education Center campus in Davison, Michigan<\/a> welcomed Michele Bernreuter, Hurley Diabetes Program Manager. Michele came to the campus to speak with the students about Diabetes education and how each of them will come across this disease in their chosen profession. Michele was able to cater her presentation specifically to the students in the Medical Assistant<\/a>, Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration<\/a>, Dental Assistant<\/a>, and Pharmacy Technician programs<\/a>. She discussed signs and symptoms as well as preventative measures.<\/p>\n

Michele originally came to the campus after being invited by Career Services Representative Victoria Carpenter to speak to the students. “Diabetes is a disease that affects so many of us on a personal level,\u201d shared Victoria. \u201cPersonally having a husband with diabetes, it is a daily struggle for him as well as for me. Each and every one of us is susceptible to this disease, and taking the necessary preventative measures now can help us in the future.”<\/p>\n

\"Ross<\/a>Although she shared a lot of helpful information and insight, Michele’s main message to the students was one of support: “if you have been living with diabetes or just recently diagnosed, education and family support is vital to helping you stay healthy. Diabetes education is essential throughout your lifetime. Learning how to manage this from the start will help to prevent further health issues later on down the road.”<\/p>\n

Hurley is the only hospital in the area that has a program to help those prevent and to manage this disease. The Hurley Diabetes program<\/a> offers group and individualized classes to help those that have been diagnosed. This program is led by a Registered Dietitian as well as a Registered Nurse who work to create an individualized meal plan, specific to your needs.
