They decided to give all of the books that they collected to local Bookstock of Michigan. Bookstock is an organization that receives book and media donations and then sells them to others in the community. Through their efforts, these gently used books and media items are able to be enjoyed and used by many others for years to come.

In addition to providing books and media to the community at low prices, Bookstock insures that the revenue from the book and media sales goes to support education and literacy projects in the Detroit metropolitan area and beyond. Each year’s donations and sales are put into the Bookstock Fund. These funds are then distributed as small grants to local elementary classrooms, scholarship programs at universities, local book clubs, and other organizations that help to support literacy in southeast Michigan.

Their entire initiative is completely run by local volunteers that sort, stock, and collect the books and media. Being 100% volunteer driven enables all of the proceeds to go directly to supporting education. “This approach to recycling used books and media in order to raise money for education and literacy is what makes Bookstock a win-win endeavor for the community,” says the Bookstock website. “All leftover books from Bookstock are donated to nonprofits and charities in our community.”

Tammy Stanson, the Assistant Campus Director of Education in New Baltimore chose and ran this month long event and the entire office promoted it as a team. In total, the campus was able to donate 333 gently used books to this amazing cause. Tammy chose this event because giving is close to her heart and anytime giving can support someone’s education and literacy, she is all for it!

This winter, the Ross Medical Education Center New Baltimore, Michigan campus staff, faculty, and students hosted a very successful book…
Read More

[2
