Lucas is a local young boy who was diagnosed with a malignant tumor on his spine. He had surgery in September and it was revealed the cancer had spread to his brain. Doctors are watching it closely to make sure it is not spreading any further.

Every two weeks, Lucas and his family head to St. Jude’s at Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City for a neurology checkup. He had to go back to St. Jude’s in Memphis at the end of March. If the cancer had spread he will have to undergo chemotherapy. His cancer is not curable, but the doctors are hopeful that it could sit for a long time and not spread, and his family is hoping and praying for a miracle.

“I was on my way to work and heard this story on WCQR 88.3 radio station, and it touched my heart. I knew that the students and faculty at our campus would love to get involved and partner with WCQR to give encouragement to this superhero,” shared Michelle Faust, Instructor in the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program.

Lucas turned four years old in January and loves superheroes. He also loves to get mail, because his dad is a postman. WCQR, a local radio station, is asking for people to buy a card, make a homemade card, or write a note of encouragement for Lucas. WCQR will present these to him. Heather Thomas, Office Assistant in Johnson City, said, “we hope this will show this superhero how much he is loved and encourage him to keep fighting.” At the end of the drive, Michelle Faust was able to hand deliver these cards to the radio station.

During the first part of March, students at the Ross Medical Education Center Johnson City, Tennessee campus took some time…
Read More

[2
