{"id":639,"date":"2011-08-16T20:02:14","date_gmt":"2011-08-16T20:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rossis.me\/?p=639"},"modified":"2011-08-16T20:02:14","modified_gmt":"2011-08-16T20:02:14","slug":"ross-medical-education-center-staff-in-flint-restores-historic-home-for-a-good-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/blog\/ross-medical-education-center-staff-in-flint-restores-historic-home-for-a-good-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"Ross Medical Education Center Staff in Flint Restores Historic Home for a Good Cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">With hammers and paint brushes in hand, 10 staff members from <a href=\"https:\/\/rosseducation.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ross Medical Education Center <\/a>in Flint participated in the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity\u2019s \u201cA Brush with Kindness\u201d program on Saturday, July 30. \u201cA Brush with Kindness\u201d provides services such as painting, landscaping, weather stripping and minor repair services for low-income homeowners in need.<\/p>\n<p>Ross worked on the home of Ms. Verna Cowell, a resident of the Grand Traverse neighborhood. Ms. Cowell has lived in the home since she was 9 months old. The group built a new deck and completed painting on the exterior of the house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the most rewarding thing I\u2019ve done,\u201d said Vanessa Wernette, admissions representative. \u201cThe home owner was so thankful. We were happy to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Flint campus regularly participates in fundraising efforts to benefit Flint residents in need. This year, the Flint campus collected 125 cell phones for Hope Phones, an organization that supplies cell phones to medical workers in developing countries. In 2010, students and staff penned nearly 400 letters of thanks and appreciation to active and retired military service personnel for the organization, A Million Thanks.
