The Career Services team at Ross is committed to helping you start off your career successfully. With the guidance and expertise of friendly, knowledgeable team members always willing to provide assistance, you’ll have access to resources that will give you the confidence to achieve your career goals.
Career Services will arrange for local employers to come to campus and hold practice interviews with students. Students will learn what kinds of questions to be prepared for and will get acquainted with the healthcare job interviewing process.
Developing partnerships with local employers who are willing to provide an environment in which students can practice the skills they’ve learned, Career Services will try to match you to a site based on your strengths and preferences.
As we work together through challenging times we realize many of you may have questions, not only about current classes, but as you try to plan ahead for things like externship or future employment. Our Career Services team is here to help. Even though you may not be embarking on your externship for several weeks, we thought it might be helpful to give you an idea of what to expect when that time comes. This environment continues to change, and we will continue to make adjustments in response to those changes.
At the end of your Junior MOD (5th MOD, or 4th MOD for MIBOA students) you will receive an invitation from Career Services to attend a virtual Junior Meeting in Canvas. The meeting will last approximately an hour and will provide you with important information about the Externship assignment. It will review the requirements for completion, student responsibilities, and guidelines to help ensure a successful externship experience.
As you near the end of your Senior MOD you will work with your Career Services Representative to identify an externship site to complete the on-site portion of your training. Externship is the final requirement for graduation for all certificate and diploma programs at Ross, and requires students, under site supervision, to practice and perfect the clinical/technical and professional skills developed during the program. The Career Services team is constantly communicating with sites to identify those that are willing to host externs and help them complete their program successfully. With that in mind, when you are assigned an externship site it is very important that you show up as scheduled and demonstrate your training and professionalism to retain the site and complete your required hours for graduation.
Externship Seminar is a mandatory part of your externship assignment. All active externs will be invited to attend each week. Canvas titles each seminar item as an “assignment”, but it could be a video, document review, or survey. The completion of all seminar items is equivalent to 2 hours attendance, although the average time to complete has been considerably less. You will only receive attendance for the time/assignments completed so please complete all that are due.
The Career Service team is here to support you throughout this journey and beyond as you begin your job search. They are identifying job leads for employers that are currently hiring and in need of medical support staff. They will continue to assist you with mock interviews, coaching, resume preparation and placement. Your success is important to us and we are here to help.
To prepare you for your job search, Career Services will help you create resumes and cover letters, provide you with mock job applications to fill out, arrange for mock interviews, and place you in an externship with an employer that matches your strengths and what you’ve learned in class.
After you graduate, the Career Services team will still be around to help! Stay in touch after you graduate to continue receiving individualized services and job search help. Career Services holds workshops, job fairs, and one-on-one coaching sessions to continue professional development post graduation.
Coming to Ross was one of the best decisions I have made. I have learned so much and even changed as a person. The staff makes me feel at home and welcomed everyday I walk through the door. This experience has been life-changing for me.

I've been in the program for the past five months and my time here at Ross has been awesome. When starting the program, I was nervous about what lie ahead, but after a few weeks, you get into the hang of things. I've made very close friendships in my time here and plan on carrying them outside of graduating. Ross has been one of the best decisions I've made.
