Ross’ Pharmacy Technician program prepares students to work in retail pharmacies, hospitals, and compounding pharmacies and assist licensed pharmacists. The field of pharmacy is growing and changing, and the program at Ross works to prepare students for these ever-evolving demands.

Some may think that pharmacy technicians solely count out pills, but they actually have a range of responsibilities and duties, depending on which setting they work in. For example, a pharmacy technician may work with patients to help them determine how to pay for their prescriptions, or make IVs.

Students will learn customer service skills, professionalism, the legal aspects of pharmacy, and insurance billing. The goal of the program is to prepare students to take the PTCB national board exam and to work an entry-level position in a variety of pharmacy settings.

The Dental Assistant program at Ross provides a mix of clinical dental assisting and administrative dentistry training to prepare students for entry-level positions in a dental office. Students will learn the skills of four-handed dentistry and how to help keep the office running smoothly.

A common misconception is that a dental assistant is the same thing as a dental hygienist. A dental assistant helps the dentist by preparing instruments, ordering supplies, and completing front office work, while a hygienist is someone who cleans teeth.

Ross’ Dental Assistant program covers much more than teeth—students learn anatomy and physiology and how the human body functions as a whole. Combining book work and hands-on instruction, students will build a well-rounded foundation for working in a dental office.

The diploma in Practical Nursing provides the opportunity for students to acquire principles of knowledge from the biological and behavioral sciences as well as the science of nursing.

A practical nurse works under the supervision of doctors and RNs, performing duties such as taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medication, ensuring patient comfort, and reporting the status of their patients to the nurses. A practical nurse takes care of basic duties in settings such as nursing homes, extended and skilled care facilities, rehabilitation centers, community settings and numerous other healthcare environments.

The Practical Nursing program prepares students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Practical Nursing. Students who graduate will be prepared to seek entry-level positions as members of a healthcare team.

The Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program at Ross is a versatile program that prepares students for a number of entry-level positions in a medical office. Students will leave the program with a basic knowledge of insurance billing, medical coding, and healthcare office administration.

Some describe the work graduates of this program may do as working “behind the scenes” of a medical facility. They make sure bills are paid correctly, medical codes are entered accurately, and that the front office runs smoothly.

While oftentimes the work may appear to outsiders as secretarial work, people who work in billing and coding-related positions have knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and several “languages” used for insurance billing and medical coding.
