Last month, the Ross Medical Education Center campus in Brighton enjoyed celebrating the United States military heroes. It all started when the campus’ new Pharmacy Technician instructor, Tracy Muck, came across the nonprofit organization H.E.R.O. while visiting the Hamburg Family Fun Fest last month. She was introduced to their care package project “Operation Salute,” and she knew right away that she wanted to get the students at Ross involved in the cause.
After her discovery of this great organization, Mrs. Muck went on to have her Pharmacy Technician students use their newfound compounding skills to create several products on H.E.R.O.’s lists of items that the soldiers overseas need the most. Together, they filled bags full of bottles and tubs with sunscreen, lip balm, deodorant and hand sanitizer that they had made themselves!
The Pharmacy Technician students weren’t the only ones that were going to get the opportunity to support the troops, though! Jill and Holly in the Admissions department decided that they wanted to get the rest of the students in the Medical Assistant, Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration, and Dental Assistant programs involved as well. So, the staff brought in decorative tie-dye card stock, lots of colorful markers, and patriotic 3-D red, white, and blue stickers to set out in the student break room.
As the day went on, more and more students used their creativity and appreciation to create dozens of Thank You cards to send inside of the campus’ care package. The students filled their cards with well wishes, inspirational quotes, and heartfelt stories. The staff and faculty from the campus is tremendously proud of all of their active U.S. military members as well as their veterans, and they were thrilled to have been able to help make their service a little easier by sending some encouragement.
