Everyone at the Ross Medical Education Center campus in Brighton was thrilled to take part in a community event last month to gather donations for Lacasa Center through Two Men and a Truck’s annual Movers for Moms program! Since April 7th, students, faculty, and staff alike used Lacasa’s handy wish-list for mothers and their children as a guide to get their donations together. Each day as people brought in their contributions, they were given a bright purple wristband to show their participation in this special event.
By the time Two Men and a Truck arrived on May 7th, they were able to pick up several big boxes stuffed high with donations. Everything from silverware and dishes, diapers and wipes, toys and art supplies, juice boxes and snacks, and cosmetics and personal hygiene products made their way out the door in time to reach Lacasa for Mother’s Day.
Lacasa has been an established nonprofit benefiting the local community for over 30 years. Their mission is to “protect, advocate for and empower victims and survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault.” They do so through providing a 24/7 Help Hotline, a Crisis Shelter for families and their pets, counseling and support groups, transitional housing, legal services, donations, and hosting community fundraisers and events.
Every year, Two Men and a Truck help wonderful organizations just like Lacasa all over the country by picking up donations from participating locations and bringing them back to shelters before Mother’s Day to help provide a special day for struggling families. Since they began over 30 years ago, Two Men and a Truck has been dedicated to supporting and improving their local community. Now, with many more locations, they enjoy developing meaningful partnerships in each community that they are based in. Ross enjoyed partnering with them this year and looks forward to continuing to do so in the future!
