Like many other Ross Medical Education Center campuses during this back to school season, the Davison campus wanted to do something to help out area children that were going back to school as well as their teachers and families. They decided to hold a school supply drive at the campus throughout the month of August. Many of the students at Ross are parents and know the stress of buying all new supplies each year for their children. That’s why they wanted to help to alleviate some of that pressure for local students by giving to the cause.
Throughout the drive, a large variety of supplies were donated. Some of the items given were pens, folders, glue sticks, highlighters, binders, and more. Everyone on campus, including staff, faculty, and students, participated in the drive and donated the items. Each person that donated was happy to do so, imagining the excitement of the students on their first day when they are surprised to find new supplies that they get to use for the year. Even for children who claim they don’t like school, there is something exciting about starting a new year with new supplies.
The campus chose the local Lakeville Community Schools to be the recipient of all of the proceeds from their drive this year. Connie Heatwole, Ross Office Assistant, was in charge of coordinating delivery of the supplies to the schools of Lakeville Community Schools. Campus director Frank Skinner said “I’m very appreciative that the staff and students care this much. I appreciate Connie driving the supplies to the school and making this event happen. There isn’t a better cause than helping young kids feel proud about going to school.” The campus plans on doing this event again next year and annually in the years to come. They are still undecided on whether they will stick with Lakeville or possibly collect for a different school system next year.
