The Ross Medical Education Center campus in Davison, MI hosted a special community service event for the month of February. Faculty, staff, and students collected items to donate to the children that are currently being treated at Hurley Children’s Hospital. In order to really give them the best surprise possible, the campus made sure that all of the items donated were specifically from the wishlists the children had come up with. Some of the items asked for and donated included Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels cars, markers, stuffed animals, craft supplies, and books.
Hurley Children’s Hospital is part of Children’s Miracle Network and sees over 11,000 children annually. Since opening in 1908 as Hurley Medical Center, their mission has stayed simple: “Clinical Excellence. Service to People.” Ross in Davison understands that goal and seeks to align themselves with people and organizations that are committed to excellence and supporting their communities. Kristine Furtaw, Regional Vice President at Ross, said, “the staff and students at our Davison campus know how to give back. We are more than just a school in the community. Ross strives to be integrated into the community through service projects like this each month.”
Along with the toy collection, the Davison campus has also partnered numerous times in the past with the Volunteer Coordinator at Hurley Medical Center to allow for some excellent volunteer opportunities for the campus’ Medical Assistant students to participate in. Everyone on the campus loves partnering with Hurley Children’s Hospital because many of them have children and they know how important it is to have a hospital that you can trust with your children. Nicole Moore, Pharmacy Technician Instructor, said, “Hurley Children’s Hospital is doing great things in the community for children and their families, and the Davison campus hopes to continue to partner with them for future events.”
