The Ross Medical Education Center campus in Charleston has loved the opportunity to send externship students to Burgess Dental. One of their Dental Assistant students from their first class in that program asked Dr. John Burgess to allow her to complete her externship there as she was a patient of his. He finally agreed to let her as a favor, but he was adamant that she would be the only one. After her externship, Dr. Burgess came to the advisory board meeting to let them know that the work he saw from that first student was impeccable. So, when he was offered a second student, he took the campus up on it. He was again impressed and hired that student straight out of externship. He now works hard to get word out to other offices of the high caliber students that Ross has to offer. The students love working in his extremely friendly, open office. As soon as a patient enters the office, they are greeted cheerfully by the front desk, and Dr. Burgess himself is friendly and down-to-earth, caring deeply about his staff and patients. The career services staff knows that he is always willing to lend a hand and that he can be counted on.

What do you like about Ross graduates?
I like that they always come here very well equipped to start working from day one.
What is something you like about working with Ross?
They have had a sampling of just about everything that we do in a general dentist office. After having the opportunity to tour the campus, I feel confident knowing that they have great equipment, and they are very modern. Because of this, Ross students come and feel very comfortable starting right in.
How is the Career Services staff at Ross?
They are awesome. They have been very friendly, and they are always welcoming and pleasant.
How would you describe your experience with having externs from Ross?
It’s just so rewarding to help someone further their education and career. Ross has a more well-rounded education than other schools. They are taught more; they can work in back or up front.
Overall, how would you assess the success rate of Ross graduates?
I believe it’s 100%. I would definitely hire from Ross.
What’s the main advantage of hiring a Ross graduate?
The main advantage would have to be their knowledge; they have already been trained very well in all the aspects. It’s always good to have someone that can do more just one thing in the office.
