Many students and graduates from Ross Medical Education Center in Roosevelt Park, Michigan are hard working professionals that make themselves and their campus proud. One such student was Faith Troyer, a graduate of the Roosevelt Park Medical Assistant program. Before she began attending Ross, she describes her life as in a “personal, emotional and financial slump” as she was worried about how to make a living and support herself. She had always been interested in the healthcare field and had seen Ross commercials many times, but she just wasn’t she could do it and was afraid to try and fail. However, she knew she needed a change and believed that the challenge would be worth it.
Faith began the Medical Assistant program at Ross in January 2015 and knew that there was no going back. She set her goals and worked tirelessly to achieve them. “Faith was never one to give up,” shared Lisa Picard, Campus Director in Roosevelt Park. “She was a constant motivating force; no matter what happened in her life, she continued to be positive.” Her perseverance was obvious as she rode the bus two hours to school every day and then again back home. She came in at noon to study before class and didn’t leave until 10pm when the doors closed, listening to lectures for the evening class after her own classes we over. Lisa continued, “I have never seen a student work as hard as what Faith did the whole time she was here – pure determination.”
Throughout her time in the classroom, Faith had many obstacles to overcome. In the beginning of the program, she really began to question whether she could continue, but the encouragement of the staff and faculty as well as reminding herself of the promise that she had made to herself to succeed kept her moving forward. She got consistently better and gained confidence, all while staying positive and being an inspiration and motivation to every person at the campus, staff and students alike.
After she successfully completed her classroom work, Faith began at her externship site, Mercy Health Surgical Services. Michele Klint, her externship supervisor, said of her, “”Faith is very personable and has a great personality. She took time with patients to make sure they were comfortable and had what they needed.” Toni Hamilton, Career Development Representative at Ross shared about her experience working with Faith, “in every interaction I have had with her, she has always displayed a positive and enthusiastic attitude toward her training, especially when the time came for her to begin her externship. I was confident that wherever I placed Faith for her externship that she would be successful because of that enthusiasm and positivity she continually displayed at Ross.” Her confidence was very well placed; after Faith’s first day of externship, Toni received an email from her supervisor letting the campus know how awesome Faith was. “There is no doubt in my mind that she will go far in life,” said Toni.
On October, 5th 2015, Faith graduated from Ross Medical Education Center. Four days later, she moved to Springfield, Missouri and was quickly hired as a Medical Assistant at the Sisters of Mercy Hospital near her house. She now works in their neurology department with a group of Medical Assistants and Doctors that she loves working with. “I love my job and the people I work with,” shared Faith. “My patients are going through hard times and struggles themselves. I want to be a shoulder for these people to lean on, an ear to listen and give them a heart that truly cares. My life has changed drastically since I graduated from Ross, and I love every minute of it.” The Roosevelt Park campus could not be more proud of Faith or her accomplishments and looks forward to all that she will do in the healthcare field.
