Luis Jimenez-Perez first visited Ross Medical Education Center at the Roosevelt Park campus in November of 2012. When he came in for a tour, he was accompanied by his parents and mentor, Mr. Eugene Ross. Luis came in with a dream to enter into the medical profession as a Medical Assistant. For years he had acted as a translator for his parents and other family members whenever they had to go to a doctor’s visit or needed to be seen in the emergency room setting.
Luis’s parents had immigrated from Mexico with the hope that their children would be given opportunities that they were not able to have. His parents’ ambitions inspired his dream of assisting with medical procedures. Also, because of his experiences, he wanted to have the ability to assist those with language barriers. This desire was the driving force behind his choice to attend Ross. His family and mentor believed in Luis and supported him along his journey in the hopes of his dream coming true. At first it did not appear that Luis was going to be able to attend school due to financial issues, but through the support of his family, mentor, and the staff at Ross, he was able to overcome those barriers and begin school in January of 2013.
Nine short months later, in September of 2013, Luis successfully graduated as a Medical Assistant and passed the Registered Medical Assistant exam. He completed his externship at Hackley Community Care Center and was hired immediately following externship as a full-time Medical Assistant there. Just like he had dreamed, every day he is working side-by-side with physicians, engaging in clinical and administrative duties while acting as a liaison for those in need of a Spanish speaking translator. Luis is truly an inspiration that dreams can come true through hard work and determination.
