The MACCS association (Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools) awarded their annual ‘Outstanding Student Award’ recognition to 27 students students from various career schools in Michigan on April 25, 2014. The criteria for this honor focuses on those students who are successful in their program despite overcoming extreme challenges and obstacles. Faculty nominates students who have overcome serious hurdles in life to become successful and the selection process continues from there.
The Saginaw, Michigan campus of Ross Medical Education Center was proud to learn that two of the 27 State-wide winners were from their campus. Jennifer Randolph from the dental assisting program and Dixie Keane from the medical assisting program were selected as winners. Frank Skinner, Saginaw campus director, said “Everyone at our campus was delighted to know that Dixie and Jennifer had won. We know that these two students are committed to working hard and changing their lives. We announced the winners just prior to the actual ceremony so that the winners could have a chance to attend the ceremony held in Livonia, Michigan. It was an emotional moment, when you consider all they have gone through. I am very proud of them”.
One of the honorable mentions went to a student also from the Saginaw, Michigan campus of Ross Medical Education Center. Jacob Essex, medical assisting student, received his honorable mention after turning his life around and making the most of his experience at Ross. “I give Jacob a lot of credit. He needed something to drive him towards a brighter and more rewarding future. Ross was his way out of a bad situation, and he worked hard. He is on his way towards a great career. I make sure I shake his hand every time I see him. He made me proud.” added Skinner.
Winners were honored at a ceremony in Livonia, Michigan on April 25, 2014 and received a plaque. The Honorable mentions received a certificate.
