In addition, all aspects of phlebotomy to include blood draws and glucose testing will be taught and practiced in class. Preparation of microscopic slides and mononucleosis testing will be taught as well. During these clinical skills, students will be documenting using both the paper chart and the electronic health record to be prepared for both opportunities in the health care facility.
This module also covers the medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology of the senses and the nerves. Medications that are used in these areas, including the eyes, ears, and nervous system disorders and diseases, will also be covered.
Although professionalism is always a focus, in this particular module students will also be assisted in preparing for the healthcare career. This will include resume and reference list preparation, job hunting, cover letters, and thank you letters. All aspects of preparing for the career will be discussed and practiced including mock interviews that can prepare the student for medical assisting career opportunities.
The classroom experience is interactive with many varied presentations, discussions, activities and numerous opportunities to use technology. Excel, a virtual library, StudyWare, and many online resources will be utilized. All of these skills, whether administrative or clinical, can prepare the student for opportunities in a career in the growing healthcare field whether working in a doctor’s office, an outpatient facility, a hospital facility, laboratory or many other possibilities as a health care professional.
