Each year during the third week of October, each of the Ross Medical Education Center campuses recognizes those in the Medical Assistant field and their own students in the Medical Assistant program. At Ross, staff, faculty, and students know that Medical Assistants are an essential part of the healthcare team whether they are found in a hospital, a doctor’s office, a clinic, a lab, or in a variety of other medical facilities.
Medical Assistants perform basic patient care and assist nurses and physicians as they complete examinations, minor surgeries, and many other clinical tasks. They are often the member of the team that acts as the front line at their facility and provide a first impression for patients, preparing them for procedures and taking care of following up with patients regarding exams and treatments.
They carry out a lot of the clinical tasks in an office or other healthcare facility; however, Medical Assistants can also be found performing many administrative tasks. Often a Medical Assistant can be found in an office setting answering phones, scheduling appointments, completing medical charting and filing, and a multitude of other routine medical office procedures.
Without a doubt, Medical Assistants hold a critical role in healthcare facilities. Because of their large share of responsibility and the many ways that they support patients and other staff members, the American Association of Medical Assistants has declared the third full week of October to be Medical Assistants Recognition Week. So, Ross and the rest of the healthcare community recognizes their hard work and commitment this year from October 19th through October 23rd, with today, Wednesday, October 21st, 2015 being set aside as Medical Assistants Recognition Day.
We at Ross want to thank each of the hardworking and dedicated Medical Assistants out there helping to keep the healthcare system alive and well by providing excellent patient care and support. We also want to recognize the many future Medical Assistants at each of our campuses. We could not be more proud of our students and how committed they are to their field and their community. Make sure to thank the Medical Assistants in your life!
