Every year throughout the third week of October, Ross Medical Education Center recognizes the healthcare professionals in the Medical Assistant field as well as our own students in Medical Assistant program at each campus. The faculty, staff, and students at Ross know that medical assistants are a very important part of the healthcare team in any facility whether it be a hospital, clinic, lab, doctor’s office, or another.
Part of the reason that medical assistants are so important is because they support nurses and doctors by performing basic patient care and assisting with a variety of clinical tasks like examinations and minor surgeries. Oftentimes, a medical assistant acts as the team member that provides the first impression for patients that come to their facility. They help to prepare patients for procedures and take care of following up with them about their treatments and exams.
As was already established medical assistants often perform a lot of clinical tasks in their healthcare facilities. However, medical assistants are also frequently performing administrative tasks. Many times a medical assistant can be found in a front office setting scheduling appointments, completing medical filing and charting, answering phones, and much more. Often, it’s the same medical assistant that is tackling both clinical and administrative tasks all in a day’s work!
It’s easy to see that medical assistant fill a very critical position in a variety of healthcare facilities. They carry a lot of responsibility and work hard to support their patients and fellow healthcare professionals. That’s why the American Association of Medical Assistants has declared the third full week of October to be Medical Assistants Recognition Week. Ross, and the rest of the healthcare community, is thrilled to recognize these hardworking healthcare professionals and to applaud their commitment to the field from October 17th through October 21st, with today, Wednesday, October 19th, 2016 being set aside as Medical Assistants Recognition Day.
From all of us at Ross, we want to thank each and every hardworking and dedicated medical assistant out there as well as our own amazing medical assistant students. All of you make us proud, and we so value your excellent patient care and support. Make sure to thank the medical assistants in your life today and this week!
