Jeff Biltz is a dedicated individual from Indianapolis, Ind. who wears many different hats. In addition to being Ross’ V.P. of Accreditation and Regulatory Affairs, he is also a sports aficionado. Whether he’s managing game clocks for local high school games or overseeing scoreboards at renowned college tournaments, Jeff’s passion for basketball shines through as he finds fulfillment in every game. Beyond sports, he finds joy in game shows and draws inspiration from his family’s support. With aspirations to travel with his loved ones, Jeff strives to embody excellence in all areas of his life.
We sat down with Jeff to hear a little bit more about him.
Here is what he had to say:
1. Tell us about yourself.
I was born, raised, and still reside on the southside of Indianapolis, IN. I am married to Leslie and we have two kids, Allyson and Andrew. Outside of work, my main hobby is running the game clocks and score boards for high school and college athletic events; mainly football and basketball but I have done some soccer, baseball, softball, and lacrosse as well.
2. What is your role at Ross and how long have you been here?
My role is V.P. of Accreditation and Regulatory Affairs. I have been with Ross for 6 years.
3. Tell us a little bit about your involvement with basketball and how you got started.
I have always enjoyed sports and it seemed like a good fit for my skillset as there are precise rules that have to be followed and it requires someone who is calm at all times as there are many people watching.
I volunteered to work the game clock, play clock and scoreboard for football games at Roncalli High School. The opportunity to work basketball also opened up that season.
A couple of years later, the University of Indianapolis contacted RHS because they were in need of someone to work football and basketball games. A few years into that stint, an administrator from UIndy moved on to a role at Butler University. They needed someone to work the stats board at Hinkle Fieldhouse for men’s and women’s basketball games. So, I worked that role for a few years before taking over the shot clock role and, ultimately, the game clock and scoreboard role.
4. What’s your favorite thing about running the basketball game clocks and score boards?
I have a few favorite parts. First off, it’s the best seat in the house. Secondly, I enjoy being part of the action. Third, our table crew team (scorebook, shot clock, time out coordinator, PA announcers) has had opportunities to work some post season events. We have worked the following:
- NCAA Division III men’s Final Four and Championship games in Ft. Wayne since 2019,
- ;2021 NCAA Division I men’s tournament,
- Horizon League men’s and women’s tournament,
- Division II first and second rounds in 2023 and 2024
- Semi-finals and finals of the National Invitation Tournament and inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament in 2024.
I have also been fortunate to work with a great team. Much like any other venture, it is important that we work together so the games run smoothly.
5. A fun fact about you.
I love watching game shows.
6. What is your favorite book?
ABHES Accreditation Manual. I use it frequently.
7. Share the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you.
“Strive for excellence in everything you do.” – My dad
8. What is a destination you hope to visit one day?
Hawaii with my family.
9. Are there any particular people that have inspired you to progress as a person?
My family has always encouraged me to progress as a person.
