Each year during the third week of October, Ross Medical Education Center and the healthcare community recognizes National Pharmacy Week. Throughout this week, we take time to thank pharmacists and pharmacy technicians for all of their hard work and dedication to excellence. Students, staff, and faculty at each of the Ross campuses that have the Pharmacy Technician program get excited to recognize the future pharmacy technicians in their midst.
We know that pharmacy technicians are an essential part of the pharmacy team whether in a hospital pharmacy, retail pharmacy, or any other setting. They support pharmacists and other members of the pharmacy team as well as directly assist patients and customers. Many times, a pharmacy technician is the first line for the pharmacy, greeting patients, answering phones, and checking prescriptions. They constantly juggle the balance of the clinical and administrative tasks that they take on in the pharmacy, moving from filling prescriptions to looking up insurances.
Once out in the field, our pharmacy technician graduates have completed a training program that included pharmacy ethics and law, pharmaceutical and medical terminology, microbiology, and more. They also spent ample time practicing skills relating to drug procurement, manufacturing and packaging operations, inventory control, and compounding procedures. They spend time practicing professional skills and doing everything they can to be prepared for success in the field.
They do all of this while supporting the pharmacist and other pharmacy staff. All of this hard work and patient service is why we at Ross are thrilled to join the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in honoring pharmacy technicians. We applaud their hard work and dedication throughout Pharmacy Week, October 17th through October 21st, and specifically today, Tuesday, October 18th, as National Pharmacy Technician Day.
From each and every one of us at Ross, we would like to thank and congratulate all of the hardworking pharmacy technicians out there and also our pharmacy technician students. We know that you work hard every day whether in the field or in the classroom to improve the lives of your patients. You make us proud and we appreciate your amazing dedication! Do you know a pharmacy technician or student? Be sure to thank them today and this week!
