Annually in the third week of October, Ross Medical Education Center and Ross College campuses join the rest of the healthcare community in recognizing National Pharmacy Week. During the week, we at Ross take a moment to thank the entire pharmacy staff, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians for their diligence and hard work. Staff, faculty, and students at Ross campuses that offer the Pharmacy Technician program take time to honor the future pharmacy professionals in their midst.
At a hospital pharmacy, retail pharmacy, or in any other setting, we know that pharmacy technicians are a necessary component of the team. Not only do they provide essential support to pharmacists and other members of the pharmacy staff, they also directly assist customers and patients. Often, the first person that a patient or customer meets in a pharmacy is a pharmacy technician. They can be found answering phones, checking prescriptions, and greeting patients. A pharmacy technician is consistently balancing the administrative and clinical aspects of their job, moving from looking up insurances to filling prescriptions.
After they have completed their program, our Pharmacy Technician graduates are out in the field able to put to use the things they were taught in the classroom. These include pharmacy ethics and law, microbiology, pharmaceutical and medical terminology, and much more. They also have spent hours in the classroom doing hands on practice of skills related to manufacturing and packaging operations, compounding procedures, drug procurement, and inventory control. They have also had practice of important professional skills that can help them be successful out in the field.
All of the hard work they do is done while also acting as a support to the pharmacist and other pharmacy professionals. That’s why we at Ross are honored to join the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in recognizing pharmacy technicians and those future pharmacy technicians in our classrooms. We are proud to applaud their dedication and hard work during National Pharmacy Week from October 16th through October 20th. We are especially excited to celebrate National Pharmacy Technician Day today, Tuesday, October 17th.
From all of us at Ross, we want to thank and congratulate all of the hard working pharmacy technicians out there as well as our own pharmacy technician students. We know that you work hard every day whether in the field or in the classroom to improve the lives of your patients. You make us proud and we appreciate your amazing dedication! Do you know a pharmacy technician or student? Be sure to thank them today and this week!
