On April 3rd, the Ross Medical Education Center in Owensboro, KY had their ribbon cutting. Although it rained steadily throughout the event, it was a complete success! Campus Director Latasha Shemwell said, “I was so pleased by the support our Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce displayed at the event. We plan on being highly active in the community, and it starts by building a solid foundation with your local Chamber.”
Founded in 1913, the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce has worked for a century to provide valuable benefits and services to businesses and individual members. Today, with a membership base of nearly 900, the Chamber is a critical partner in community and business development initiatives, serving as the center of business advocacy for the Greater Owensboro region. The Chamber’s mission is “providing leadership, advocacy and member services that foster growth and economic prosperity for our region.” Of the approximately 40 people that attended the event, about half of the guests were Chamber Ambassadors. A Chamber Ambassador is a Chamber member that attends all the ribbon cuttings and is there to support new members when needed.
The campus was given a membership plaque and a book containing all the Chamber Members’ business cards and contact information. They were also given information on upcoming events and groups that businesses and individuals can join within the Chamber such as Connecting Young Leaders of Owensboro (CYLO) for professionals 40 and under and the Emerge upcoming class. Emerge is a prestigious program that you have to apply for and be selected. Out of hundreds of applicants, they only select a handful of professionals.
The ribbon cutting event began with refreshments and then transitioned to a presentation by Ross staff. The presentation covered the History of Ross, the mission, the programs offered, externships, instructor application process, and Admissions hours of contact. The presentation was well received and many Chamber Members expressed how impressed they were with the facility and what Ross has to offer the community. Overall it was an exciting introduction to the community and opportunity to build connections that will continue to grow.
