Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. National Children’s Dental Health Month messages and materials have reached millions of people in communities across the country.
Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
To celebrate Children’s Dental Health Month the morning Dental Assistant class from Ross College in Sylvania, Ohio went to Lighthouse daycare in Toledo. The students made sock puppets to make their presentation on proper brushing to the children. The Dental Assistant students taught the children how to brush their teeth and discussed the importance of good nutrition with the children. The children practiced brushing the puppet’s teeth and how this will help them in the future. Some of the children put the sock puppets on their own arms and brushed their teeth. It was a very interactive program that the students and children enjoyed. The children also received Ross toothbrushes to take home and use!
