Throughout the month of December, many Ross Medical Education Center campuses came together to provide food and gifts for those in need in their local area. However, in addition to keeping their neighbors well-fed and loved, the Ross campus in Davison wanted to kept them warm as well. So, in the weeks leading up to the holidays, the staff, faculty, and students of Ross Medical Education Center in Davison, Michigan collected and donated new and like new hats and gloves for for local children.
At the beginning of the week of Christmas, the collected hats and gloves were donated to a local pediatric urgent care center. From there, the staff was able to hand out the warm items to kids that came in not feeling well that were lacking a hat or pair of gloves. Because of the generosity of the students, faculty, and staff at Ross, over 30 children will be given the gift of warmth this winter. They know that many families are already struggling financially and that this time of year tends to make things harder for everyone, especially those with growing children. It is not always possible to buy them new cold weather gear each winter.
The organization that the campus decided to partner with, Pediatric and Adolescent Urgent Care in Grand Blanc, Michigan, will distribute the hats and gloves to any child that is in need, especially since it is cold out now. Ross Career Service Representative Pati Brown added, “I noticed when I was at an urgent care that sometimes a parent doesn’t have time to grab warm clothing for the child, especially when the trip is spontaneous and unexpected. I’m sure a parent would appreciate an office that can send the child home warm even if they came in without gloves or a hat.” This drive is one that the staff, faculty, and students look forward to hosting again next year.
