On May 30th, 2014, the Michigan Blood Bus parked outside of Ross Medical Education Center’s Saginaw Campus. Joey Dalton, from Michigan Blood, contacted Mrs. Ginger Rezmer, Assistant Campus Director of Education, and asked if we could host a blood drive at our Saginaw Campus. The Saginaw area is in need of blood during the summer months and volunteers are needed statewide. Michigan Blood is a non-profit blood bank that has been servicing hospitals since 1955. They provide blood to over 40 hospitals in Michigan. Julie McKintosh and Ginger Rezmer orchestrated the Blood Drive. There were 24 slots available, with several being double booked. A total of 30 people signed up. A total of 22 people registered. It was standing room only. There were 6 first time donors. Three phlebotomists worked with 6 students and staff at a time. One of the Ross students, Sara Claus, even brought her family with her to donate. A total of 13 pints were collected. Students who were not scheduled to be in class today even came out to support the cause. Remember to give blood…it saves lives!
