The instructors at each Ross Medical Education Center campus are experienced in their field and work hard to teach their students from that experience. However, sometimes what is even more exciting to students is the opportunity to learn from someone who not only has experience in the healthcare field, but someone who also shares the experience of having been trained in a Ross classroom. Recently, the students in the morning Pharmacy Technician program in Davison, Michigan had the opportunity to do just that.
The students had a guest speaker, Susan Kreiner, visit their class. Susan is a former graduate of the Davison campus and Pharmacy Technician program. Since graduating, she has been working as a Pharmacy Technician for Diplomat Pharmacy for the last two years. She spoke to the students about her experience in compounding as well as retail which tied in perfectly with the module that the students were just completing.
The students really enjoyed hearing about all the different types of compounding she has had experience doing as well as the stories she shared about working at the retail store. Everything that she shared gave the students a better insight and understanding. Many of them shared that after hearing her talk, when they finish the program they have much more of an idea of which particular field of pharmacy they would be the most interested in working in. They also really enjoyed the fact that Sue was a graduate from their campus. One of the students said, “it was good to hear from someone with real world experience of working in the retail and compounding setting. We liked that Sue spoke to us on our level and she was very personable and easy to understand. We wish she had the time to show us some examples of compounding she has done but she had to go to work that day.”
