It’s always exciting to host a guest on a Ross Medical campus! Recently, Ross Medical Education Center in Fort Wayne, IN had the honor of welcoming Congressman Jim Banks. A veteran and former supply corps officer in the US Navy Reserve, Congressman Banks toured the campus as part of his effort to visit career schools in Fort Wayne.
Congressman Banks is very well accomplished in his time serving the public, receiving several awards and honors throughout his tenure as a state representative and serving in the armed forces. Originally from Columbia City, IN, Congressman Banks previously served in the Indiana State Senate from 2010 to 2016. He took a leave from his position in the Indiana State Senate in 2015 and 2016 to deploy to Afghanistan during Operations Enduring Freedom and Freedom’s Sentinel, and received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his leadership while serving. In 2017, he began representing Indiana’s Third District in the US House of Representatives. The committees Congressman Banks serves on include the House Armed Services, Veteran Affairs, and Education and the Workforce committees.
Career Development Representative and veteran Rob Drudy lauded this fantastic opportunity: “[It was] super informative when it comes to Veteran Affairs, privatization [of] healthcare, and communication for the future.”
Students, staff, and faculty were excited to meet and talk with Congressman Banks, and enjoyed giving him a tour of the Fort Wayne campus. It was a wonderful chance for everyone to be able to share the Ross community and what it has to offer with such a respected guest.
Ross Medical Education Center’s approach to providing students with the resources to become successful individuals in the allied health field is something to be proud of, and Assistant Director of Education Barb Switalski shared: “Congressman Banks was impressed with our campus and the ‘hands-on approach’ taken to prepare our students for success.”
“It was a pleasure meeting Congressman Banks at the Fort Wayne campus and having the opportunity to share how Ross changes lives each and every day,” added Sharon Treumuth, Executive Vice President of Operations.
