One of the most exciting parts of summer for Ross campuses is the opportunity to participate in outdoor community events, meeting new people and helping out. Many of these events are fun-filled and exciting, leaving staff, faculty, and students with great memories and plans to attend and help out in the future. Recently, the Ross Medical Education Center campus in Lafayette, Indiana volunteered to help out the local Chamber of Commerce during one of their largest annual summer events.
The staff of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce was thrilled to promote their 25th Annual Dancing and Cruising in the Streets event this summer, and the Ross community was just as excited to be a part of it! The event took place on Saturday, July 16th in the downtown Lafayette area. They were able to welcome thousands of attendees for a day of food, fun, and entertainment. During the course of the event there was a parade of antique cars as well as a concert featuring Jesse James Decker and Kansas.
The campus was able to help out through volunteering their time on a Saturday to work in the concession tent selling food vouchers to visitors as well as assisting with security during the concert. The Chamber of Commerce was very appreciative, letting the Ross team know that events like this are impossible without the generosity of volunteers like them. Ross volunteers were also excited to learn that they earned special t-shirts to wear for the event due to their generosity.
All those that were able to attend enjoyed their time. Charlene Taylor, a current student in the Lafayette Medical Assistant program, shared about her experience, “it was my first time attending this event and it was nice to watch people have fun!” Justine Sailors, Career Development Representative, also enjoyed the event saying, “it was a great way to get involved in the community while networking with other organizations that were volunteering.”
