One of the most unique and exciting aspects of being a student at Ross Medical Education Center is the community partnerships with both support organizations and other healthcare professionals and employers. From externships to employment, students are constantly reaping the benefits of the connections the Ross staff and faculty make in the local area. The Medical Assistant class at Ross in Lafayette, Indiana recently enjoyed the benefits of their campus’ employer relationships when an entire panel of them came to the school.
The Lafayette staff and faculty promoted this exciting, educational day for their Medical Assistant students with a successful employer panel event represented by staff from some of their community partnerships. Staff members from IU Health/Arnett, Innovative Medicine, American Health Network, and Healthy Horizons Pediatrics all supported Ross’ educational efforts by sharing their knowledge and experiences utilizing certified medical assistants in their respective practices.
As students pursue their future career goals as healthcare professionals, they have many questions regarding what day to day life may look like out in the field. This was a perfect opportunity for them to ask some of their questions and hear the answers to questions they may not have even thought to ask. As hiring managers and office managers, there are few better people to talk to about what they are looking for in new medical assistant staff for their facilities.
Throughout their time at the campus, they had great discussions on hiring practices, expectations, externship opportunities, and more! Although the event was brief, the students students took the information to heart and built some confidence in choosing their career path. The Ross Lafayette staff is already looking forward to their next event with their employer partners. The staff would like to send a special thanks to Leticia Davis, Leslie Holdcraft, John Catron, and Bobbie Shackleford for spending their time helping the Ross Medical Assistant students grow!
