The students at Ross Medical Education Center in Midland, Michigan continually search for ways to touch the lives of those in need and to strengthen the Midland Community and surrounding areas. This winter, the Ross Midland campus decided to prove their commitment by working as a team to collect donations for the Shelterhouse. The Shelterhouse of Midland, Michigan, is a non-profit organization committed to providing safety, shelter, advocacy and counseling to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Located in Midland, Michigan, the Shelterhouse’s mission is to support victims of domestic and sexual violence by providing shelter, counseling, and advocacy for people in Midland and Gladwin counties. As stated on the Shelterhouse website, “from community education and prevention programs to counseling services and assisting survivors in crisis situations, Shelterhouse provides comprehensive services to those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault.” In addition, they provide emergency shelter in the form of a safe haven for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and their children. During the cold winter months, the students, faculty, and staff at Ross Medical Education Center in Midland, Michigan, gathered and assembled in gift bags. They then turned around and offered them as donations for the residents at the Shelterhouse. The bags were made up of a variety of items that consisted of personal care items, toiletries, diapers, clothing, stuffed animals, toys and reading material. “We at Ross in Midland, Michigan, hope that the holidays were most enjoyable for the individuals and families who received these heart-felt donations as they prepare a fresh start to a new year,” shared Cori Leigeb, Office Assistant.
