The students, faculty, and staff at Ross Medical Education Center in New Baltimore, Michigan are passionate about healthcare – both for humans and animals. That’s why they consistently partner with local organizations that are seeking to make their area a healthier and happier place! Recently, the students and staff in the Veterinary Assistant program in New Baltimore once again teamed up with the Humane Society of Saint Clair County SNAP. SNAP stands for Spay, Neuter, Adopt, Protect, and it is a very special local organization.
As a non-profit, the Humane Society of Saint Clair County SNAP relies heavily on public and individual donations. They work hard to make sure that every adoptable animal in the county finds a forever home and that animals are safe and taken care of in their homes. Their main mission is to work towards a solution to decrease the number of homeless and unwanted pets entering their shelter each year. One of the ways that they do this is through offering affordable spay and neuter surgery services to the community. They also offer a rescue and adoption program that is foster-based and no-kill. As if all this wasn’t enough, they even go out into the community to support the young people in the community through the educational programs that they offer them.
The campus frequently partners with this organization because of all the wonderful things they are doing. This time, the Veterinary Assistant class invited students in the Medical Assistant program, Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program, and Dental Assistant program to join them in collecting cans and bottles as a fundraiser. Throughout the month of October, each program from the campus collected hundreds of bottles and cans and donated the money they received to help support this incredible organization and the wonderful, dedicated people that run it.
Although the campus works hard to support the mission of the Humane Society of Saint Clair County SNAP, this relationship definitely is not one-sided! They are always looking for ways to give back. In fact, during the surgical module for the Veterinary Assistant students, they are always more than willing to have the students come shadow surgeries in a veterinary clinic setting.
