Recently The Times Herald newspaper, published an article about a young man, Connor Weston. Connor Weston spent his fifth birthday in the intensive care unit after he and his family were in a near fatal traffic crash on US-31 near Traverse City, Michigan in Oceana County. Connor suffered a brain injury during the crash and will undergo a surgery around October 31st.
The family is from Port Huron, Michigan and was traveling on vacation to Michigan’s Adventure when a semi hit their vehicle. The responding trooper, Sheriff Lt. Craig Mast, was quoted in the Times Herald article as saying “I still don’t know how this wasn’t a triple fatal, all three of [the boys] cheated death.” Connor’s brothers, Logan and Dylan, sustained minor injuries in the crash. Their mother and father had just recently added a daughter, Natalie, to the family on October 6.
Mia Vargo, Campus Director of Ross Medical Education Center in Port Huron, Michigan brought the story of Connor on a regional call, and the region instantly wanted to join in sending cards to Connor. “The students, staff, and leadership in this region are exceptional,” said Kris Furtaw, Regional Vice President. “They always go the extra mile when it comes to community service and making cards for Connor was no different. We were able to send Connor over 100 cards. Some of the cards were handmade and some were store bought, but all contained personal messages for Conner to get well soon. It is a blessing to see such an outpouring of love for this young superhero and his family.”
Michelle, Connor’s mom, specifically requested that senders of cards refer to Connor as a superhero and draw pictures. She said that he enjoys seeing all the mail. Since Connor is from Port Huron, he was invited to come to the Port Huron campus after he recovers. Everyone at the campus hopes that he will join them to meet the staff and students that were so very excited to wish him well. If you would like to send Connor a card please feel free to send it to Mary Free Bed, Connor Weston 3306, 235 Wealthy St. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
