At Ross Medical Education Center in Portage, Michigan, the staff, faculty, and students have been doing the hustle… the hygiene hustle! They know that February is the “month of love” and many are focused on those they care for most. Therefore, in keeping with the spirit of the season, everyone at the campus decided to take the time to show a little bit of love and support to their local community.
They decided to host a hygiene drive at the campus to benefit their neighbors in need. Setting their goal at an impressive 1,000 items, they got to work collecting some of the important things that we all use daily. Everyone was inspired to provide needed items and support to those that lack them. As a campus, they were able to meet and exceed their goal, collecting a grand total of 1,224 important and necessary items. This was a major achievement for the campus, and it was one that was so appreciated by those who will receive them.
The other big decision that the campus had to make was the organization that would be the recipient of their generosity. The choice was simple, and the donations were delivered to the Portage Community Center. For 40 years the Portage Community Center has been the only human services organization in the city of Portage. They help Portage residents with emergency assistance and youth development as well as several hosted programs. It is their goal to make life better for those in the community!
The campus donations will be available to Portage residents who are in need and are seeking the help from the Community Center. This means that their donations will stay right there in their area and will be immediately utilized. The campus collected an array of toothbrushes, floss, toothpaste, body wash, hair care products, tissues, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper, and shaving items for men, women, and children. The campus deeply appreciates all of those who donated during the Portage Hygiene Hustle.
