Earlier this fall, the Ross Medical Education Center Port Huron, Michigan campus had the opportunity to proudly host a guest speaker, Ms. Lisa Beedon from Lake Huron Medical Center. Ms. Beedon is the Integrated Marketing Specialist at Lake Huron Medical Center and also serves as the National President of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA).
The staff, faculty, and students at Ross were very thankful that Lisa took time out of her very busy schedule to stop by the Port Huron campus. She spent time speaking to students during their professionalism module. During her talk, she touched on some of the various factors that impact successful employability. Lisa shared some specific things that employers look for in her experience. For example, being respectful, courteous, and dependable are top traits that employers look for when adding to their team.
In addition to some of the general traits looked for in a potential employee, Lisa also explained some of the characteristics that are important for Lake Huron Medical Center. She shared that, when hiring, her organization desires a candidate who has a passion for their organization and enjoys coming to the workplace every day.
In the midst of talking about some expectations of a potential candidate, Ms. Beedon also took on the topic of social media and how it impacts a person’s ability to obtain a job. Lisa provided some best practices including encouraging students to Google themselves and to closely monitor their online presence. She also reminded students that employers utilize the internet frequently to gain insights on their potential employees. The students at the Port Huron campus were very engaged in the presentation and appreciative of Lisa’s guidance.
