When looking to start in any new position, there are a few surefire ways to set yourself apart from the competition. The healthcare field is no different. In fact, if you can get yourself an interview at the organization of your dreams, you will have the perfect opportunity to showcase what you know and how passionate you are about helping people live happier, healthier lives. However, before you get that invitation to the hiring manager’s office, you are going to need to have a solid, stand out resume.
Remember that you are likely not the only person applying for any position. That means that the person in charge of hiring is sifting through piles of dull resumes with errors A strong resume is a great way to make sure that you are noticed, remembered, and invited to interview. We came up with a few ways to help you make your resume as great as you are!
1. No errors
It is important to make sure that your resume is free of grammar, spelling, and informational errors. Even though it may seem obvious that your resume should be the product of care and time, there are almost guaranteed to be resumes on the hiring managers that contain simple mistakes that make them look sloppy.
2. An appropriate header
Your header should contain your contact information, be easy to read, and draw the eyes of the person looking at it. This strong beginning encourages the reader to keep reading!
3. Good content
Are you the most qualified for the job? Prove it! Use keywords that are used in the job description. Let the employer know that you are exactly what they are looking for and that you have the professional, educational, and personal experience necessary for the job. Keep information relevant, short, and concise.
4. Keep it clean
As soon as they set their eyes on your resume, they should be able to give a sigh of relief. Make sure that they see a professional and uncluttered format. Don’t use too many words or distracting images. Just as your words are well-crafted and relevant to the position, keep your format clean. Use color only sparingly, and keep fonts consistent and easy to read.
5. Cover letter
A cover letter is a good tool to offer a glimpse into why you are the best option for the job that you are interested in. If there is a shining example of your healthcare success, throw that on your cover letter. They are sure to want to know more and read through your resume.
Why do I need a great resume?
Any time an employer posts an open position, they are bound to receive a pile of boring resumes. Some of these will be full of errors, and others will be very generic and not relevant to the job they are applying for. If you take the time to ensure that you are giving your best impression of your skills, passion, and hard work, you will inevitably stand out.
