Valentine’s Day is typically thought of as a day to show others they are loved. The team at the Ross Medical Education Center in Saginaw, Michigan showed a great deal of care and love when they graciously delivered home made cookies and valentine cards to local senior citizens at New Hope Valley Assisted Living Home and Community Village on this Valentine’s Day holiday.
New Hope Valley Assisted Living Home offers assisted living and has a special “memory unit” which caters to the needs of Senior Citizens with Alzheimer’s disease. The Community Village in Saginaw is a not-for-profit facility that services the assisted living needs of low income seniors and is operated by Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan.The students and staff were welcome to make cards in between classes and they made 127 cards in total. To add a personal touch to each card the staff was able to obtain the first name of each person receiving a card and cookie and included this on the small valentine gift.
Each Senior facility was very pleased to receive these special treats from the students and staff at Ross Medical.
Sarah Hartwick and Sara Hine home baked the cookies and said they were happy to do this for the senior population. “It gives us a way to give back to the community” said Sarah Hartwick. Sara Hein said she was happy to make the cookies and enjoyed even more when she saw how happy each senior center was that received them. The team reported that the activity directors at the facilities were so excited that their Senior population was thought of in such a special way on Valentine’s Day.
