Students in Ross’ Medical Assistant program will be taught the skills necessary to be an essential member of the healthcare team in an office setting. This includes hands-on instruction in vital signs, phlebotomy, injections, laboratory testing, and administrative duties.

A medical assistant is someone involved in all aspects of meeting patient needs from the time they arrive until the time they leave. Medical assistants play an important role in the healthcare field in that they support doctors and nurses and interact with patients. It’s especially necessary for them to be proficient in hands-on tasks, both on the clinical side and administrative side of things.

Many people view medical assisting as a stepping stone on the way to becoming a nurse. The Medical Assistant program at Ross is fast paced and covers topics and skills that will be useful when pursuing a career in nursing, however; medical assisting can be a rewarding allied healthcare career on its own.

The Nursing program at Ross College teaches students to become an effective nurse clinician capable of sound judgment in a variety of healthcare settings. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing provides in-depth definition and detail into the practice of nursing and how that is applied to patients and their families.

Registered nurses play an important role in promoting health and wellness and help improve the quality of life in the community. As a registered nurse, you will be able to delegate and prioritize patient load as well as educate patients about health conditions, provide advice, and offer emotional support. Nurses work in healthcare facilities such as physicians’ offices, home healthcare agencies, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, dialysis centers, hospitals, and outpatient facilities.

The integration of theory and clinical practice is designed to assist students in the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills. The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing prepares students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses.

The Dental Assistant program at Ross provides a mix of clinical dental assisting and administrative dentistry training to prepare students for entry-level positions in a dental office. Students will learn the skills of four-handed dentistry and how to help keep the office running smoothly.

A common misconception is that a dental assistant is the same thing as a dental hygienist. A dental assistant helps the dentist by preparing instruments, ordering supplies, and completing front office work, while a hygienist is someone who cleans teeth.

Ross’ Dental Assistant program covers much more than teeth—students learn anatomy and physiology and how the human body functions as a whole. Combining book work and hands-on instruction, students will build a well-rounded foundation for working in a dental office.

The diploma in Practical Nursing provides the opportunity for students to acquire principles of knowledge from the biological and behavioral sciences as well as the science of nursing.

A practical nurse works under the supervision of doctors and RNs, performing duties such as taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medication, ensuring patient comfort, and reporting the status of their patients to the nurses. A practical nurse takes care of basic duties in settings such as nursing homes, extended and skilled care facilities, rehabilitation centers, community settings and numerous other healthcare environments.

The Practical Nursing program prepares students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Practical Nursing. Students who graduate will be prepared to seek entry-level positions as members of a healthcare team.
