The Port Huron campus of Ross Medical Education Center has had the pleasure of partnering with Lighthouse Family Medicine over the past several years to provide externship and hiring opportunities to the community. Lighthouse Family Medicine has accepted student externs from the Medical Assistant program and the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program. Faith Logan-Kirnberger, Career Development Representative at Ross shared that, “Lighthouse Family Medicine is a phenomenal site that offers an excellent experience for our students.” Karden Dowden, MS RN, FNP-BC at Lighthouse Family Medicine serves as a member on the Advisory Board for Port Huron and actively participates in campus activities such as conducting mock interviews. The Port Huron campus has been extremely pleased while working with Lighthouse Family Medicine and values the excellent training they provide to the student externs.

What do you like about Ross graduates?
I like Ross graduates because of their excellent training. Ross graduates are prepared, focused, motivated and ready to succeed in their career. They strive for excellence and set themselves apart.
What is something you like about working with Ross?
I like working with Ross because it gives our office and staff the opportunity to mentor and serve the upcoming medical community. It is a way to give back. It also helps us with our employment needs because we like hiring Ross graduates.
How is the Career Services staff at Ross?
The Career Services Staff are exceptionally skilled at what they do. They invest in each student, helping them in their success and future. From our office standpoint the Career Services staff are friendly and professional and are excellent at helping and matching our office with students that are a good fit to our practice model.
How would you describe your experience with having externs from Ross?
Hiring externs from Ross has been a positive experience. We like having the opportunity to get to know the externs throughout their time with us. It is a wonderful, natural transition to employment when we have the need in the office. The extern is then trained and ready to start their career at our office. Having externs from Ross has been an excellent experience. We are always pleased with the quality of students. Not only can we give back to the student, but our office also gains from the extra help.
Overall, how would you assess the success rate of Ross graduates?
I would assess the success rate as excellent. Ross graduates are an excellent addition to our medical community. And they come to the workplace prepared because of their thorough training.
Overall, what has your experience as a Ross Employer Partner been like?
Our experience as a Ross employer partner has been wonderful and rewarding. It has been a great experience mentoring and investing in the Ross students. We have also benefitted as an office and business by having the well trained and prepared graduates able to transition into employment at our office.
