One of the great opportunities that a student at Ross Medical Education Center has is the chance to tour and experience various kinds of offices and facilities before graduation and interviewing for positions. Recently, the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration class from Flint got to do just that! They spent time touring the chiropractic office of Dr. Jack Kribs after hours. He was gracious enough to let them explore the facility and interview his staff.
Dr. Kribs takes student externs from Ross and is always delighted to share his 56 years of chiropractic experience with the students. The office manager, Rebecca Jackson, is also a Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration instructor for the campus. She was thrilled to get to show students the office’s electronic health record program, Practice Fusion, and the office’s billing software, eTHOMAS. Ms. Jackson discussed the intricacies of billing alternative treatments like massage, acupuncture, and pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. It was a very interesting and unique experience for the students, some of which will soon be starting their externship experience.
While on their visit, students were in Module 1, the musculoskeletal system and law & ethics. This made visiting a chiropractic facility an ideal trip! Students asked many questions about HIPAA in the office, muscle and bone treatments, billing, and more. After answering many of their questions, they then walked students through a typical day in the office from a patient’s point-of-view and from a biller’s point-of-view. Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration student, Danesha LeSears, stated, “I could see that when something goes wrong, like the front desk doesn’t enter the info right the first time, how that affects everything in the office.” Students enjoyed seeing a claim from start to finish in the real world!
