Many students in the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program at Ross Medical Education Center are those that work hard and have a dream of entering the medical field. Michele Perez from the Ross campus in Port Huron, Michigan, was one of those students. In fact, her instructor, Jennifer Sater, even decided to nominate her for the Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools Outstanding Student Award. Michele was one of the recipients of this recognition and it was very well-deserved.
While she was a student in the classroom, Michele was always diligent about her studies and was a positive mentor to her fellow classmates. According to Jennifer Sater, “Michele was extremely professional and led by example, completing the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program with 100 percent attendance and a 4.0 GPA.” Prior to Michele’s enrollment at Ross, she had worked in a career for quite a few years. As her company began to struggle and positions were being eliminated, Michele decided it was time for a new chapter in her life.
From the moment that she walked into the campus, Michele was fully committed to her education and her experience at Ross. During her program, her mother became very ill and was in and out of the hospital throughout the majority of Michele’s classroom training. As her mother’s primary caretaker, Michele would travel daily after class to oversee her mother’s care.
However, even in the midst of such a trial, she never let what was happening in her personal life affect her studies and academic success.
As Michele came to the end of her externship and her academic journey with Ross, her mother passed away. Through this very difficult time, she continued to remain positive, professional and dependable. She completed her externship successfully and went on to secure employment with one of the largest medical networks in the area, Port Huron Internal Medicine. The staff and faculty at the Port Huron campus is honored to know Michele and to have been a part of helping her accomplish her goals.
