Each of the programs offered by Ross Medical Education Center is broken up into modules that can be completed in any order but are all fundamental pieces to your journey to become a healthcare professional. Every module offers information and a set of skills that will help you to become more equipped for success in the field.
In Module One in the Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration program, the basics of insurance and insurance terminology as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield and commercial insurances are the focus of this module. The module also includes a course in medical law and ethics, which is essential knowledge for the healthcare professional. The current topics in the healthcare field are covered to consist of various laws to include HIPAA and the importance of patient confidentiality. The classroom experience is interactive with many varied presentations, discussions, activities and numerous opportunities to use technology.
This module also includes medical terminology and the anatomy and physiology of the skin, bones, and muscles. Common medications used in treatment of skin, bone, and muscle conditions will be included. Medical terminology and anatomy and physiology are some of the basics of coding. These topics correlate with procedure and diagnosis coding related to the skin, bones, and muscles. The diagnosis and procedure codes are used to complete the claim form to bill many types of insurance companies.
Electronic health records and patient management systems are used and ultimately generate insurance claim forms. There are several student resources available to enhance the learning experience including basic keyboarding skills using Microsoft Word, Typing Quick and Easy, Microsoft Excel, a virtual library, StudyWare, electronic claim forms, and many online resources. Professionalism and soft skills are covered to prepare students for their interaction with patients.
Did you know that hand washing is the number one method for preventing disease? For any healthcare professional, whether you work at the front desk, in a lab setting or in a billing department, it is very important to understand disease transmission and how to prevent exposure. Finally, during this module, a student will be taught how to take the necessary precautions as well as proper hand washing techniques. Although it sounds basic, the instructors have some really interesting activities related to this, and it can be more informative and entertaining than you would think! The module is a place to gain knowledge while having hands-on fun with those clean hands!
